A tennis membership at Glenway involves more than just playing a game. Led by Tennis Director, John Migliaccio (or “Miggs” as he is affectionately known by both members and staff alike), the tennis program is designed to provide members with some social interaction, competition and most importantly, friendships coming to fruition. At Glenway, members have the advantage of playing high-quality tennis year-round. Our four indoor courts, which were freshly resurfaced in November 2006, are available from September to May. And when the weather gets warm, members take the game outside on our four Omni-Court Pro outdoor courts (bubble available throughout summer in case of rain). Tennis members can expect a wide array of programs for every level and age group.
Our Round Robins on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are very well attended and contribute to the social side of tennis. We offer a wide variety of men’s and ladies’ leagues for all levels and everyone is welcome to participate. For those who like to compete and travel to neighboring clubs, we have a total of 6 competitive teams in the fall/winter season. Our summer roster of competitive teams consists of 5 Inter-County Teams (2 ladies & 3 Mixed). Glenway is one of the few clubs to introduce Cardio Tennis to its schedule. It’s been a big hit so far and combines the best of both worlds: a cardio workout while working on your tennis skills.
Club Championships took on a new format this year, thanks to your tennis committee. Registration starts early January and matches are played as scheduled up until the finals. This very exciting, new format will set the stage for a Championship Weekend with lots of spectators, refreshments, and the Awards Dinner Dance following the matches on Saturday evening. The Junior Tennis program is very active under the leadership of Dave Kautz. He does a great job at teaching the basic fundamentals and keeping a spark lit with all our junior players. The assistant pros are available six days a week and will soon be adding Sunday to their schedule. Juniors may also participate in Round Robins and/or House Leagues on Saturdays. See junior lesson and program information on the Junior Lessons page. "We strive to make the game different by creating a fun atmosphere!"
