SQUASH

In today’s fast-paced society, finding the time to workout is a challenge for most people. One of the solutions: a squash membership at Glenway Country Club. According to Forbes magazine, squash was ranked the number one sport in a technical survey that measured cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and calories burnt over a 30 minute period-an hour of squash burns approximately 700 to 1000 calories!

Playing squash at Glenway involves more than just getting a good workout. Our programs are designed to increase member involvement within a social, friendly environment.  After the heat of battle our squash members are often found enjoying a cold beverage in Centre Court bar!

Led by Squash Professional, Richard Yendell there is a program for every member; novice, junior, senior, social or competitive. Members can choose from a variety of house leagues during the week. These include: Monday Night House League of over 90 members, Women’s Leagues on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and a Thursday Night Men’s league. On top of this, Round Robins are open to players of all levels year-round each Wednesday night, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning.

For our competitive members, Glenway enters 7 teams in the Toronto & District City League each year. This includes Men’s C, D & E, Women’s B & D and Master’s A & C teams. Last year our Master’s A team took home the overall trophy as city wide champions!

On the social side, squash members look forward to annual events including the Woody’s Cup tournament in December, special House League Parties, the Club Championships which run from February to April and the Squash Players Golf & BBQ day in May.

Our growing Junior Program is designed to develop future club players as well as Provincial and National caliber athletes. There is dedicated sessions for young ‘Munchkins’ in our 4-7 year old group as well as a Boys and Girls Program for 8 – 11 year olds and a High School group for teenagers.

If you’re interested in squash, speak to your Club Services Rep about adding this exciting sport to your membership.
