FITNESS

While Glenway members enjoy using the variety of equipment offered by our fitness centre, it's the programs and the people that make Glenway a special place to be.

Glenway was the first Club in Canada to add Group Active to our class schedule! Group Active is a program designed for able-bodied people who are not regular exercisers. It combines strength, cardio, balance and flexibility into one 60 minute class with great music and caring instructors. Group Active fills a need in our community to get people moving in a way they will enjoy and be able to continue.

With obesity becoming an epidemic due to our inactive population, everyone recognizes the need to become more active. Group Active (CLICK HERE for video) is just one of many great programs that Glenway’s fitness department has to offer. Our comprehensive schedule of Fitness Classes continues to evolve according to member demand and interest. Yoga and Pilates classes continue to attract a steady following, in keeping with the continued interest in mind/body programs. Group Ride (CLICK HERE for video) and Group Power (CLICK HERE for video) are our most popular programs; providing excellent cardio and weight training workouts.

Glenway recognizes that coming in for a workout is not always easy. So, our fitness department offers many different programs to keep you motivated year-round. For example, Club 2000 recognizes members who workout consistently in fitness or play squash or tennis, accumulate a total of 2000 minutes (an average of 3 hours a week) in any 3 month period, and you will achieve Club 2000. You can sign up for this free program at any time at the fitness desk, and we’ll show you how to get started.
As well as Club 2000, ever popular programs such as our annual Cross Training Challenge in December and Spring Challenge in April help keep members motivated and introduce them to new activities and forms of exercise.

Personal Training continues to grow, as members value their time and want more results for their efforts. Our professionally certified team of Personal Trainers offers the latest training techniques. In addition to one-on-one training, Glenway offers a variety of group training programs to meet specific needs. These programs may change from year to year, but our current programs include: Learn to Run, Golf Conditioning, Dryland Training for Alpine Skiing, Teen Training, Women on Weights and our NEW
Weight Loss Program. Check out the Personal Training page for more information.

Glenway also recognizes the importance of encouraging our younger members to stay active. Pre-teen members (ages 8 – 12) now enjoy the use of cardio equipment at any time, with parental supervision. Free monthly clinics are offered to pre-teens to keep their workouts fresh. Teen members (ages 13-18) enjoy full access to all facilities and classes.
As you can see, there is a lot going on in Glenway's fitness department. People join Glenway as fitness members for a variety of reasons. Perhaps they plan to improve their health, increase their cardio, strengthen their muscles or increase their flexibility, but what members are pleasantly surprised by is how much they enjoy the Glenway experience.
